This is the link to the original, I'll translate it:

Moslim women demand banning of easter eggs

"If we can't wear headscarfs while conducting public services to guarantee neutrality (for example when they're employed in city halls and such religious signs aren't allowed, christian or hindu or buddhist ones aren't either), then we demand that there will no longer be any christmas trees in city buildings and that there'll be no more easter eggs distributed."

Such states the Antwerp union representative Badia Miri.

Miri is one of the seven muslim women who had to take off their headscarfs if they wanted to keep on working at the city hall's office windows. Of the seven employees who were asked to take their scarfs off during the work hours, 3 did so. For the 4 others a different function was found. Nobody was fired.

Still the resistance to the dress code regulations, which was introduced in march, is still very much alive. The seven muslim women now urge for "the effective control on the neutrality of services".

"The Antwerp city council states that neutrality is hampered when employees wear a cross or a headscarf", says Miri. "But we feel that this only is directed against muslim women. If the city council is really concerned about neutrality, then there can be no christmass trees or easter eggs on the workfloor anymore. We demand a place where we can report all infrigements on dress code policy."

Well boo fucking hoo, cry me a river you ungrateful cunt.

She might want to check up on her facts, the easter bunny and chocolate eggs aren't exactly religious symbols, and the christmass tree is a heathen symbol which the church tried to prohibit.

Seriously, wtf is happening here? I'm so ridiculously pissed off about this, it just never stops with these people making "demands" or having "requirements".

If they want to make things here like they are in their country of origin, which they fled for opportunistic reasons, what keeps them from turning the fuck around and go back again if it's so much better how they handle things over there? Look how far it got them.

The airplane tickets will be cheaper than the welfare and all the special needs accommodations.

Other similar things which have happened in the last few months:

On wednesday afternoons (when high school kids have a half day off here) in some antwerp areas all the driving license test computers are put on turkish or morroccan so foreigners can go and take the test. What about the kids who don't speak morrocan or turkish and who want to get their driving license in their last year of high school?

*Public* swimming pools that get closed off for several hours so only islamic women are allowed in there

Special slaughterhouses set up by the state for islamic sacrifices because otherwise the animals suffer too much and thye create hygene hazards

the list goes on and on and on

And ofcourse, say anything about it and you're a nazi racist.

Seriously, the next person who calls me a nazi is going to get a fist to the face.

well.. both easter and christmas are based on pagan celebrations, but that's not the issue here :) To be honest, if you want total equallity you will either have to forbit everything everybody wants or allow evertyhing. Since that's not going to happen... They come to this country (ok, in this case Belgium, but here we have it too) and expect everything to be done for them, wanting to live as they always did (then why come here?) and only seem to be able to complain. They can say everything they want about us, but the other way around is not allowed.

Sidenote: What I just wrote may sound cruel, but the problem is that it is true. Not for all of the immigrants, certainly not. I've met and worked and talked with many foreigners and some of them are not like that.

anyway, I think this link will make my point clear. Please not that it isn't only muslims, but almost every group or religion acts this way...

Posted this a few times before, still worth a reread.

I know they're not all like that, but seriously.

would your best guess be that the good majority of Muslims there feel this way and make these kinds of demands, or is it a case of a small minority making a lot of noise?

FN Posted: Wed Aug 22 13:30:25 2007 Post | Quote in Reply
I say it's a minority making the demands and a large majority feeling that they're justified in doing so (the type that won't voice it but when directly asked will reply with "I can understand it" or "it's justified in a way" or "perhaps they put it a little strongly, but"), and the smallest majority of forgeigners outright condemning this sort of behaviour out of concern about what this sort of thing does for their image

  "smallest majority" = smallest minority

Another story, kind of like the paris riots a while ago:

Basicly, a criminal gets paranoid and thinks police is following him, jumps out of a window and dies.

He had it coming, right?

But wait, he was black, so in fact, even though he was a criminal and decided to run from the police and jump out of a window even though there was no police present, it's the police's fault and it's racism for sure.

So what do normal people do to avenge this poor victim's death?

Burn pillage and riot ofcourse.

actually, i was talking with a friend a few days ago about Europe and the "liberal" governments there.

and he was saying how his UBER right-wing conservative mom was predicting that Muslims would overtake the governments[in the form of minorities demanding rights] and turn Europe into a collection of Muslim countries... eventually. and because the governments are SO liberal, they would say nothing to "stop" such a thing.

i didn't read the articles. and to be honest, didn't read much of what christophe wrote.

but i thought the idea relevant since when my friend told me about it, i thought i could hear Christophe shouting his adamant arguments all the way from Belgium.

as for me, i think people eventually have to draw the line between rights, privileges, and whether they're worshiping the idea of democracy or worshiping their religion. to me, that's what it all seems to come down to... and the reason for the arguments and debates is the fact that everyone choose differently.

Watching "God's Warriors" with Christiane Amanpour on CNN

Fanatical Muslims are misguided morons...turning Allah into a hate filled merciless bloody war monger of a god. My distain for what they believe in and do is beyond words.

A shining example of religion at it's very worst.

The problem is, most european countries have about 10 viable parties, but there's nothing in between center left and extreme right, so what do you expect people to vote when stuff like this goes on every single day.

I'm telling you, it's a matter of time before nazism pops up again under a different name, directed towards muslims, and people will buy into it because nobody is doing any damage control right now.

Also, most european governments are at least partially socialist, much like american liberals.

That has nothing to do with most liberal parties here though, which are still liberal in the true sense instead of the american one.

Is Belgium a secular state or a Christian one? If it's a Christian one the bingo, there's your answer to why should there be bunnies and trees etc.

If it's secualr it should join my war on organised religion.
