So, would you rather cry because of the truth, or smile because of a lie?

I'd rather smile because of a lie. What's the use of crying anyway?

My son is home for a short break from college. He got a phone call from is long time girlfriend, who he also shares an apartment with at school (I warned him)last night and she gave him the ol' "it's just not working out" line out of the blue. This life experience blow to the nuts has never happened to him before.
He teared up trying to talk to us and when his mother hugged him he broke down sobbing from the emotional pain.

Sometimes I think crying is a very important thing to do in life.

A quote from Dan Fogelberg comes to mind:

Lessons learned are like
Bridges burned
You only need to cross them but once
Is the knowledge gained
Worth the price of the pain?
Are the spoils worth the cost of the hunt?
Are the spoils worth the cost of the hunt?

don't have any arguement against that. It's true.

does it count when I tear up chopping really strong onions?

  I'd rather cry.

That way I can get through all the pain and sorrow quicker instead of prolonging the inevitable pain later on, because the longer you live a lie, the more it hurts once you learn of the truth.

Ahhh...sweet Dancer. Always ready to come to an aging hipsters defense. I sleep better at night knowing your out there lurking.

There's nothing I can say about this however. I am getting old. I am an ex-hippie. I'm learning to accept and be comfortable with both of those facts. Anyhoo when Christophe calls me that I'm sure he's using it as a term of endearment : )

Of course, only when terms like "old fart" start to get thrown around like kittens at a jet engine you might think of somebody being offensive ;)

True

When people refer to me as an "Old Fart" here I slink to a dark corner of the house, get in a fetal position and cry

unless they are using "old fart" in a nice complimentary way

: )

I would never call you an old fart.
I have far too much respect for you to refer to you in such a derrogatory and demeaning way.

I think I'm going to take that as sincere because I know you would NEVER say anything bad about me on a public forum such as this, hiffer

: )
