New Music

Ok, time for the occasional "new music" check.

You know the drill... And in case you don't, list all the new music you've lately gotten into... whether the artist is old, new, or a has-been.

For me:

Andrew Bird [Imitosis was what got me hooked]
Feist [just dl'ed the album... VERY good. and very mellow]
Fine Frenzy's Almost Lover [because i have an ounce of estrogen]
Sea Wolf's You're A Wolf [first heard this on Jimmy Kimmel live... I don't watch the show often, but I did catch this song... and i LOVE it.]
Kate Havnevik [For me... i'd say a mix of Zero 7 and Bjork...??]
The Eels
Klaxons' Golden Skans
Billy Joel
And even though I HATE HATE HATE his song about shoes, Paolo Nutini's Last Request

Your turn.

I don't think it was on GT that I found this, but I'm sure I've posted this before:

Andrew Bird's are great little ones, and so are the Arcade Fire's number and the Shins are awesome.

Isn't Feist just great?

haha! i just featured that on my blog because i love la blogotheque and i especially loved their most recent takeaway show with malajube! (i love malajube.)

i think jens' takeaway show is awesome, and i also really loved architecture in helsinki's takeaway show, mostly for the people peeping their heads out of the building and the fact that they got a group of people together to sing.

awesome blog for sure.

  oyes,

Beirut's take away show made my heart flutter.

i like these shows because they remind me of playing with my percussion band in kensington market.
there is something about making and sharing music outdoors.

Because it's French and you were being fancy. Fancy!
I really love the Arcade Fire's "Neon Bible" with "Wake Up". Yeah. I like how the percussion for Neon Bible is done with the tearing of magazines and the violins/fiddles in Wake Up, and how awesome it is live.

Some of this is not necessarily new too me but it's what i've been listening to over the last few days.

Grinderman- Nick Cave's new band, heavy and dark like a stormcloud full of mercury raindrops (Good tracks- No Pussy Blues and Love Bomb)

Seasick Steve- This motherfucker is a real no fooling Hobo who rides on trains and everything and his bluesy guitar songs are amazing, sounds like a steam loco full of Hobo's on it's way to the breakers yard (Good Track- Thangs go up thangs go down)

Infesticons- Trip hop act who did an alubm in the 90s called Gun Hill Road, fuck knows what they do now, like Transformers form the Ghetto (Good Track- Hero Theme)

Christy Moore- The definitive Irish folk soother, sounds your dream Ireland in a sound (Good Tracks- Lisdoonvarna and Delerium Tremens)

Bonzo Dog Dooh Dah Band- Monty Python for the ears, if you don't know these guys by now you can go whistle (Good Tracks- Death cab for Cutie, Mr Apollo)

Nine Inch Nails- What more can i say but fucking spot on, sounds like an s&M orgy in an abandoned Iron smelter (Good Track- Closer)

The Pogues- I keep pedaling these guys but meh, sound like what getting drunk in lively company should sound like (Tracks- Sally McLennan, A Pair of Brown Eyes)

Primal Scream- Fucking hell where do i start, sounds like a whole lot of love with samples (Tracks- Loaded)

And Finally

The Dropkick Murphys- I love this band, i want to live to 'Kiss me i'm shitfaced' and die to 'Forever', if the Pogues are getting drunk in lively company the murphys are getting pissed with maniacs (Good tracks- see above)
