How many GT'ers know this one ?

written by Hoagy Carmichael and Johnny Mercer

Have you anything to say to me
Won't you tell me where my love can be
Is there a meadow in the mist
Where someone's waiting to be kissed

Oh skylark
Have you seen a valley green with spring
Where my heart can go a-journeying
Over the shadows and the rain
To a blossom-covered lane

And in your lonely flight
Haven't you heard the music in the night
Wonderful music
Faint as a will o' the wisp
Crazy as a loon
Sad as a gypsy serenading the moon

Oh skylark
I don't know if you can find these things
But my heart is riding on your wings
So if you see them anywhere
Won't you lead me there
Oh skylark
Won't you lead me there

I didn't, but it is beautiful, in a folky kind of way.

how many GTers have heard THIS one

Ode to Pirates

Pirates live on wooden hills
Upon the seas where they doth kill
They shoot their cannon far and wide
Give ye a mighty iron broadside.

At night they'll have a wench so curvey
By day it's limes to stave of scurvey
Their booze of choice the Caribe Rum
They're port of choice up the bum.

They hack and slash and steal and drink
They'll fight until their boat would sink
They're mad and fast a right chip cocker
In death it's straight to jones' locker.

The Skylark that Mr. Mercer is singing to is Judy Garland, a former lover at the time he wrote it.
