Crazy and Mad - QuotesSometimes the pig walks to the slaughterhouse because it knows it's the best thing for the farmer. Ever tried, ever failed? No matter - try again- fail again- fail better. If we can come up with all sorts of imaginative ways in which people die, then I really don't see what the problem is with coming up with imaginative ways in which people can procreate. Wizard Magazine (contributed by Gnostic) One question that has always intrigued me is what happens to demonic beings when immigrants move from their homelands. Irish-Americans remember the fairies. Norwegian-Americans the nisser, Greek-Americans the vrykólakas, but only in relation to events remembered in the Old Country. When I once asked why such demons are not seen in America, my informants giggled confusedly and said, 'They're scared to pass the ocean, it's too far,' pointing out that Christ and the apostles never came to American. A Theory For American Folklore It is funny how mortals always picture us [devils] as putting things into their minds: in reality our best work is done by keeping things out. The Screwtape Letters (contributed by Reeza) That she had so completely recovered her sanity was a source of sadness to her. The Ravishing of Lol Stein (contributed by Space Oddity) Sleep, what slices of death, how I loathe them. (contributed by lutz) I have decided, it is fruitless. For I am no longer sure of anything concerning my existance. A philosopher is a dead poet and a dying theologian. Madwand (contributed by Elisha) Anything that happens, happens. Anything that, in happening, causes something else to happen, causes something to happen. Anything that, in happening, causes itself to happen again, happens again. It doesn't necessarily do it in chronological order, though. Mostly Harmless Here we may reign secure; and in my choice To reign is worth ambition, though in hell: Better to reign in hell than serve in heaven. Paradise Lost I took an apartment near the state university, where I discovered both crystal methamphetamine and conceptual art. Either one of the these things are dangerous, but in combination they have the potential to destroy entire civilizations. (contributed by Malik) Whom the gods destroy, they first make mad. Of all the things I've lost, I miss my mind the most. HACKERS (contributed by mOrGaN @_Q) The only thing that separates a poet from madness is a thin sheet of paper. One bright day in the middle of the night, two dead boys went out to fight. Back to back, they faced each other, and with their swords they shot each other. A deaf policeman, hearing the noise, came to the rescue of the two dead boys. If you don't believe this lie is true, ask the blind man; he saw it too. Sure, I'm crazy. But that used to mean something. Now, everybody's crazy. (contributed by Michael Ondrick) I often have long conversations all by myself, and I am so clever that sometimes I don’t understand a single word of what I am saying. In my case, I was not frightened in the least bit at the thought that I might live because I was certain, quite certain, that I was already dead. The actual dying part, the withering away of my physical body, was a mere formality. My spirit, my emotional being whatever you want to call all that inner turmoil that has nothing to do with physical existence, were long gone, dead and gone, and only a mass of the most fucking god-awful excruciating pain like a pair of boiling hot tongs clamped tight around my spine and pressing on al my nerves was left in it's wake. Prozac Nation (contributed by Sandra Howland) It`s very hard to win without any problems. To win, you have to fight. And many times, this fight means to indispose in certain ways with some people, to prevail your beliefs. Your point of view, your ideas and your personality above everything. If you don`t fight hard, you lose your own way. And if you lose your own way, you`re nobody. So, to achieve this line of conduct, you have to fight very hard. And in many times, you really have to fight. (contributed by Johnny Delirious) Sooner or later we all discover that the big moments in life are not the advertised ones, not the birthdays, the graduations, the weddings, not the great goals achieved. The real milestones are less prepossessing. They come to the door of memory unannounced, stray dogs that amble in, sniff around a bit and simply never leave. Our lives are measured by these. You were born an original. Don't die a copy. There is no cure for birth and death save to enjoy the interval. So mine's a double and I'll see you all in hell suckers! (contributed by Oni Queen) Someone from greenpeace walked up to me the other day and started yelling 'MURDERER! MURDERER! What do you see when you see a cow grazing one of Mother Nature's beautiful green fields, what do you see!?' Now I'm a vegetarian but I just didn't like his attitude so I said 'Mate, when I see a cow I see a steak wrapped in a leather jacket.' (contributed by Lucas) I'm learning in my old age that the only thing you can do to keep your sanity is to stay in the moment. I felt like a monster reincarnation of Horatio Alger. A man on the move and just sick enough, to be totally confident. Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (contributed by Mike) Stress is when you wake up screaming and realize that you were never asleep. (contributed by Caleb) Though this be madness, yet there is method in it. Hamlet Mad; adj. Affected with a high degree of intellectual independence; not conforming to standards of thought, speech, and action derived by the conformants from study of themselves; at odds with the majority; in short, unusual. It is noteworthy that persons are pronounced mad by officials destitute of evidence that they themselves are sane. I tell you: One must still have chaos in one to give birth to a dancing star! Thus Spoke Zarathustra Maybe I am not very human - What I wanted to do was to paint sunlight on the side of a house. Of course I'm crazy, but that doesn't mean I'm wrong. I'm mad but not ill. There is serenity in Chaos. Seek ye the Eye of the Hurricane. Life may have no meaning. Or even worse, it may have a meaning of which I disapprove. Madness takes its toll. Please have exact change. Generally speaking, it's a matter of only mild intellectual interest to me whether the earth goes around the sun or the sun goes around the earth. In fact, I don't care a rat's ass either way. Is there a God? Who knows? Is there an angry unicorn on the dark side of the moon? Belief? What do I believe in? I believe in sun. In rock. In the dogma of the sun and the doctrine of the rock. I believe in blood, fire, woman, rivers, eagles, storm, drums, flutes, banjos, and broom-tailed horses... The hidden stone ripens fast, then laid bare like a turnip can easily be cut out at last but even then the danger isn't past. That man lives best who's fain to live half mad, half sane. Fantastic doctrines (like Christianity or Islam or Marxism) require unanimity of belief. One dissenter casts doubt on the creed of millions. Thus the fear and the hate; thus the torture chamber, the iron stake, the gallows, the labor camp, the psychiatric ward. Defiance is beautiful. The defiance of power, especially great or overwhelming power, exalts and glorifies the rebel. Wilderness begins in the human mind. I always write with my .357 magnum handy. Why? Well, you never know when God may try to interfere. We live in a time of twin credulities: the hunger for the miraculous combined with a servile awe of science. The mating of the two gives us superstition plus scientism-a Mongoloid metaphysic. A civilized society is one which tolerates eccentricity to the point of doubtful sanity. Filling out the form: Race? Human. Religion? Paiute. Occupation? Criminal anarchy. Hobbies? Survival with honor. Monsters are the result of the sleep of reason. (contributed by Aimee Mayer) When we remember that we are all mad, the mysteries disappear and life stands explained. The world's as ugly as sin, And almost as delightful. What garlic is to food, insanity is to art. Insanity in individuals is something rare - but in groups, parties, nations, and epochs it is the rule. Confusion not only reigns, it pours. Do not keep saying to yourself, if you can possibly avoid it, 'But how can it be like that?' because you will get 'down the drain,' into a blind alley from which nobody has yet escaped. Nobody knows how it can be like that. |
