Innocence Devoured
Grace Mehr 20 July 2002
I dreamt that a shadow came and swept over my body. It held me, and even though it terrified me, I allowed it. The shadow had the silky skin and blue eyes of a mother, and the stong, sturdy arms of a father, but it was colder than the womb I had remembered. The soft skin began to callus and the shining muscles of the arms began to wither. I soon began to realize I was floating on my own, the shadow was nothing more than a faint dimness on the wall. The outline was a small child, and I was alone against that wall, without so much as a blanket to cover my bare soul.
